The components of COVA include choice, voice, ownership, and authentic learning (COVA, 2018). My encounter with the COVA learning approach was life-changing. This class made me modify my thinking towards education. The COVA learning approach will impact my learning in the ED Tech/ADL program. For instance, I intend to be more responsive to what is happening around me in terms of educational technology. Also, research indicates that people learn more through feedback and effective collaboration from peers (Applied Digital Learning, n. d.). ADL involves students bringing their unique perspectives and ideas to the groups and refining and applying them in their personal and career lives. I plan to use COVA learning in the Ed Tech/ADL program by avoiding procrastination. Also, I will share my knowledge with others.
The one aspect about COVA learning that appeals to me the most is the opportunity to take ownership of my learning. Also, the COVA learning technique allows me to exhibit my individuality while completing the assignments for this course. The method discourages the common aspect of the traditional didactic models of learning; for example, the teacher regurgitates knowledge to students. Also, the technique challenges the aspect of students being only passive participants in the learning process.
A learner agency entails a student having the power to act. According to Oxford University Press (2021), a learner agency entails the students having and exercising a sense of control or ownership towards their learning. I can understand learner agency by encouraging students to become more actively involved in the classroom. Also, I can make them believe that they have the potential to make a difference in the way they learn. Lastly, I can make them more confident in their potential.
According to Cummings et al. (2018), "the classroom is no longer the locus of control; the network is" (p.11). Consequently, I intend to use various digital tools available to me, including the internet and social media platforms. For instance, I can find case studies about what I have learned on the internet and include them in my e-portfolio. Also, I can use digital tools to share my e-portfolio with my classmates and other scholars.
