Collaborative learning is the best approach teachers must use to add constructivist elements to learners. According to Shah (2019), successful teachers focus on student-centered approaches to help learners collaborate and arrive at crucial conclusions. Group discussions are the best for adding constructive elements and improving learning. Students share their skills and abilities with others. As a result, they collaborate and teach each other vital lessons that strengthen their understanding. I know this is functional and has helped my learners master constructive elements and learn new skills and abilities. Therefore, it is the best approach teachers should embrace and implement in their careers because it can help students master crucial concepts.
Additionally, a new learning culture can help teachers add constructivist elements to learners. According to Thomas and Brown (2011), a new learning culture enables teachers to integrate digital learning into their classrooms. As a result, students access many sources that are rich in information and interact with their peers. They also play using technology and refresh their minds when they are tired. Moreover, the new learning culture focuses on strategies that enable the learners to engage with the world. Such engagement is critical because they help learners develop diverse viewpoints and necessary thinking skills. Teachers should embrace new teaching models because they make the students active through reflection, analysis, and evaluation of the things they meet in their environments.
Collaboration becomes an effective strategy in learning when stakeholders do specific things. For example, collaborators must sit close to each other and demonstrate their skills while encouraging the learners (EdCan Network Le Réseau ÉdCan, 2016). Besides, listening makes collaboration an effective strategy because it enables a teacher to realize what the learners need to add new knowledge.
Finally, I can create a similar PD initiative to Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) by implementing specific principles. First, I must be a lead learner and encourage the students to imitate me in everything I do. I must demonstrate to them that I am a learner. Besides, I must collaborate with information technology experts (IT) who must teach us to learn more things within a short time. IT is essential because it creates connections and a suitable learning environment. Finally, I can achieve much through listening because that helps me know where the students are and where they want to go.
